The Laboratory at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono is a fully accredited facility that provides clinical laboratory and anatomic pathology services to accommodate health care providers in delivering excellent care to our patients.  The Laboratory operates in line with Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono’s mission, and strives to provide accurate and timely laboratory results.  We are committed to quality and efficiency and are constantly improving through technology and education.

The Laboratory at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, located at 206 East Brown Street, East Stroudsburg is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week to meet the needs of all inpatient and outpatient service areas, as well as other non-hospital patients.

SERVICES PROVIDED

Clinical Laboratory Services:  routine and STAT specimen collection, blood banking, clinical chemistry, coagulation, hematology, immunology, microbiology, serology, therapeutic drug monitoring and toxicology, and urinalysis.

Anatomic Pathology Services: interpretation and diagnoses on surgical specimens and specimens submitted for pathology review, cytology, flow cytometry interpretation, histology, immunohistochemistry, fine needle aspirations and frozen sections.

Other Laboratory Services:  Management and oversight of Point of Care Testing Program within the hospital services as well as physician practices and clinics

Patient Service Centers

Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono Laboratory is located at 206 E. Brown Street, East Stroudsburg.

Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono Laboratory operates six patient service centers:

  • The Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono Ambulatory Testing Center (ATC) is located at the hospital (206 East Brown Street, East Stroudsburg) and is adjacent to the Patient Registration Area on the 1st floor. Personnel collect blood and urine specimens from patients of all ages and perform EKG services. Hours of operation are 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday. This facility is closed on holidays. Phone: 570-476-3371 and Fax: 570-421-7762
  • The 447 Patient Service Center is located at the 447 Office Plaza, 500 Plaza Court, East Stroudsburg. Personnel collect blood and urine specimens from patients of all ages and perform EKG services. Hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. through 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.   • The Pocono Ambulatory Surgery Patient Service Center is located at 1 Veterans Plaza, Storm Street, Stroudsburg. Personnel collect blood and urine specimens from patients of all ages and perform EKG services. Hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. through 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.   • Mount Pocono Patient Service Center is located at the Mountain Healthcare Center, Rt. 611 (across from the airport) in Tobyhanna. Personnel collect blood and urine specimens from patients of all ages and perform EKG services. Hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays and Saturday 7:00 a.m. through 11:00 a.m. Phone: 570-895-4669.
  • West End Health Care Center Patient Service Center is located at the West End Health Care Center. Personnel collect blood and urine specimens from patients of all ages and perform EKG services. Hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Phone: 570-402-6180.
  • Bartonsville Patient Service Center is located at the Health Center at Bartonsville, Rt. 611. Personnel collect blood and urine specimens from patients of all ages and perform EKG services. Hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Phone: 570-426-6800.
  • Blakeslee Patient Service Center is located at the Health Center at Blakeslee, 5683 Route 115, Blakeslee. Personnel collect blood and urine specimens from patients of all ages.  Hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.  Phone:  570-355-7290.

PROBLEM REFERAL

The staff at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono Laboratory makes every effort to serve our clients accurately and efficiently. If problems arise relating to any aspect of our service, we ask that you notify our Client Service Representative at once so that we may identify and correct the problem. Please call 570-476-3369 – option 3.

STAFFING PLAN

The Laboratory’s Medical Director is a board certified Pathologist, supported by a team of board certified pathologists with varying specialties.

Laboratory Professional Staff:  includes Laboratory Director, Manager, Supervisors, Lead Techs, Medical Technologists, Medical Laboratory Technicians, Histology Technologists and Cytotechnologists, Point of Care Specialist

Laboratory Support Staff:  includes Phlebotomists, Client Service Representatives, Pathology Secretaries, Pathology Technician

The competency of each staff member is assessed upon completion of training, within the first six months and annually thereafter.  Competency assessment is conducted using the following elements:  direct observation, monitoring and reporting of test results, proficiency testing assessment, policy and procedure review.

LABORATORY STANDARDS AND REGULATORY INFORMATION

The Laboratory operates within the regulatory requirements and accreditation standards of the following organizations:

  • CMS, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA)
  • College of American Pathologists (CAP)
  • The Joint Commision
  • Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
  • Pennsylvania Department of Health Bureau of Laboratories

 

TEST ORDERING / REQUISITIONS

Refer to ‘Completing Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono Laboratory Requisition’ for specifics on patient demographic information required when any test is ordered and/or specimen submitted for testing.

LABORATORY REPORTING OF RESULTS

  • Electronic Medical Record
  • Office Fax – Reports will print on a fax located in your office at a scheduled time. Reports may also be requested at other than scheduled times by phoning Client Services at 570-476-3369 – option 3.
  • Telephone – Used when “Call Results” is specified on test requisition form, or if test results are determined to be critical values. Results may also be requested by calling Client Services. In all cases, a printed report will follow according to the pre-defined delivery schedule.
  • Courier service – Through scheduled deliveries.
  • First Class mail.
  • Immediate Fax – Used when “Fax Results” is requested, either on the test requisition form or in response to a telephone request.

CONTRACTED SERVICES

The Laboratory has contracts for services with the American Red Cross for blood products for transfusion as well as Quest Diagnostics, Health Network Laboratories, BioReference Laboratories and various other reference labs.
